SourceMedia Wins 2014 Neal Awards

American Banker Named Best Website; Financial Planning Earns Best Commentary

Two SourceMedia flagship brands, American Banker and Financial Planning, won 2014 Jesse H. Neal Awards from ABM, the Association of Business Information and Media Companies, at its 60th annual awards luncheon in New York City. The awards, known as "the Pulitzer Prize of business media," recognize editorial excellence among business-to-business publications.

American Banker, the leading information resource for the banking industry, won the award for Best Website. The award for Best Commentary went to Financial Planning, the leading publication and online resource for independent financial advisors. Both were recognized in the category of brands with more than $7 million in gross advertising and circulation revenue.

“These awards reflect SourceMedia’s commitment to delivering relevant, engaging content to our audience communities," said SourceMedia EVP and Chief Content Officer David Longobardi. “The Best Website award particularly highlights our embrace of 'digital-first' publishing — integrating user-generated content, rich media and more to build multi-dimensional narratives around the news and deliver an engaging user experience."

AmericanBanker.com was honored as Best Website for its strong investigative reporting, in-depth analysis, insightful video content and data-rich special reports on topics of critical importance about the banking industry. Financial Planning’s winning “Industry Insight” commentary series by Bob Veres, published in the brand’s monthly magazine and online, offers financial advisors guidance on topics such as “Fixing the AUM Fee Model,” “Fighting Financial Terrorists” and “Defining ‘Real’ Planning.”

The Neal Awards also named American Banker a finalist in two other categories. Jeff Horwitz and Maria Aspan were recognized in the Best Profile category for their article "The Bank Doctor"; it took a close look at former banking regulator and Promontory Financial Group founder and chief executive Eugene Ludwig. American Banker's "Most Powerful Women in Banking and Finance" package was a finalist in the category of Best Cross-Platform Package.

Health Data Management, a SourceMedia brand providing information technology news for the healthcare community, was named a finalist for Best Single Article for “Proceed with Caution,” by Elizabeth Gardner, in the division for brands with $3 to $7 million in revenue. The story explains why I.T. security concerns and other issues have kept mental health data in the shadows.

SourceMedia is a digitally-focused diversified information and marketing services company serving the financial services industry and other related markets. SourceMedia brands also won Neal Awards in 2012 and 2013.

Celebrating its 60th year, the Jesse H. Neal Awards recognize and reward editorial excellence in business-to-business media. They are named after ABM's first managing director, who remained active in promoting the industry throughout his life. The awards were presented at a ceremony on March 14 at Pier Sixty in New York City.
