Technical Support Technician | New York, NY
We are currently seeking a Technical Support Technician Assist with the efficient operation of the SourceMedia's Technical Support services. Ensure that tickets are opened and closed in an appropriate timeframe and given the urgency they require. This position will be "hands-on" and the candidate will be expected and required to fill-in for other team members as necessary.
-Act as a member of the Desktop Support team supporting both Macs and PC's.
-Support the pre-press production of 2 daily magazines and 40+ periodical magazines. This would include support of applications like, InDesign, InCopy, other Adobe Apps, font management and a variety of other publishing-related applications on both Macs and PC's.
-Understand the pre-press processes that support magazine and newspaper development such as Editorial systems, Ad -Placement, Ad Tracking, RIP-printing, color calibration and more.
-Researching new hardware and software for inclusion into SourceMedia standards.
-Supporting the publishing technology and general business user base on the Macintosh platform. Macintosh Design & Publishing software experience required.
-Write weekly status reports for submission to the HelpDesk Manager.
-Assist in the administration and use of the Altiris Desktop Management Application.
-Create and maintain software/ application packages for deployment using the Desktop Management tools (Altiris, Apple Remote Desktop).
-Use of specific troubleshooting tools for the Macintosh environment (Disk-Utility, etc.)
-Maintenance and troubleshooting of FTP site.
Desired Skills & Experience:
-3 or more years of technical support experience in a publishing environment. Experience with Page Layout and related applications : InDesign and other Adobe and publishing related products. CMS experience helpful. Apple Macintosh OS X expertise and proficiency with Microsoft Windows. Any level of UNIX experience is a plus as well.
-Familiarity with publishing workflow.
-Strong demonstrated knowledge of Apple desktop / notebook computer hardware, basic comfort level with Windows.
-Preferred, a degree from a 4 yr. accredited college or university.
-Must be able to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines, able to work under pressure, able to work with coworkers and other business contacts.
-Excellent telephone, written and verbal communication and project management skills are required.
-Should be willing to accept challenges and project a good professional image.
