Marc Hochstein Named Editor in Chief of American Banker

Rob Blackwell and Austin Kilgore Tapped for Senior Editorial Roles in SourceMedia Banking and Mortgage Groups

SourceMedia has promoted Marc Hochstein to the position of Editor in Chief of American Banker, the media company’s flagship and the leading information resource for banking and financial services professionals.

Hochstein, who was previously American Banker’s Executive Editor, has been a key player in executing the brand’s digital strategy over the past several years and will intensify its focus on enterprise reporting and the forces and technologies that are transforming the banking industry. In his tenure at American Banker, Hochstein developed the popular BankThink opinion blog, which engages a broad community of professionals, thinkers, and activists as contributors to the site’s industry-leading daily feed of news and analysis. He was a leader in American Banker’s hard-hitting coverage of the mortgage industry in the run-up to the financial crisis. And he was responsible for some of the earliest serious coverage of Bitcoin anywhere. Hochstein replaces former Editor in Chief Neil Weinberg, who left the company in June.

“Marc’s deep roots with American Banker, his digital acumen and his love of transformative ideas are among the many qualities that make him the ideal candidate to lead our flagship,” said Rich Melville, Editorial Director for SourceMedia’s Banking and Capital Markets Group. “In all that he pursues, Marc sets high standards and leads with digital firepower.”

SourceMedia also announced that Rob Blackwell, American Banker’s Washington Bureau Chief, will take on the new role of Group Editorial Director, Regulatory Policy, for the Banking Group. In adding this new role, Blackwell will be expanding his scope to focus on enterprise reporting and community engagement projects. Rob’s new role includes oversight of coverage across American Banker, Credit Union Journal, PaymentsSource and the company’s mortgage news brands. Blackwell, who joined American Banker in 2000 as a reporter, will focus his attention on high-impact projects, such as a recent series investigating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and live events and forums, such as the American Banker Regulatory Symposium. American Banker’s award-winning Washington bureau is considered the industry’s best resource for regulatory insight, analysis and news.

Austin Kilgore has been promoted to Editor in Chief overseeing content for SourceMedia’s Mortgage Group, including National Mortgage News, Origination News, and Mortgage Servicing News. Kilgore joined SourceMedia in 2010, as Editor of Mortgage Technology, and since then has served as Managing Editor of the Mortgage Group as well as of its sister brand PaymentsSource.
