SourceMedia Appoints New Editorial Leadership Team for Its Investment Advisor Group Brands

‘Dream Team’ Advances Wealth Management’s Most Powerful Information Network – Financial Planning, On Wall Street, and Bank Investment Consultant

SourceMedia, a digital media and marketing solutions company focused on the financial services industry, announced the promotions of several editors and the addition of two new Editors-in-Chief in its Investment Advisor Group.

The new leadership team brings extensive experience in managing award-winning editorial brands and puts the group in a strong position to advance its ongoing digital-first publishing strategy. The moves reflect SourceMedia’s continuing investment in the group’s brands – Financial Planning, On Wall Street, and Bank Investment Consultant -- to deepen the group’s engagement with the community of professionals in financial planning and investment management.

Scott Wenger has been promoted to Group Editorial Director for the Investment Advisor Group. In his new role, Wenger will focus on launching brand extensions, refining the group’s digital strategy and enriching its editorial content. Wenger had been Editorial Director for IAG and the Editor-in-Chief of Financial Planning. Prior to joining SourceMedia in 2011, Wenger led editorial teams at some of the nation’s top media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Hartford Courant, Dow Jones News Service, CNBC, CNN and, most recently, the New York Daily News.

Rachel F. Elson has been named Financial Planning’s Editor-in-Chief and one of two deputy editors for IAG. In her new role, she will manage the group’s flagship brand, as well as help supervise editorial activity among the other titles to further expand and engage the digital audience. Elson joined Financial Planning in 2012 as Executive Editor. She had previously been Managing Editor at both Inc.com and CBS MoneyWatch.com, and News Editor at MSN Money.

Samantha Allen also is now a Deputy Editor of IAG and will continue as the group’s Digital Managing Editor. In her expanded role, Allen will help supervise editorial activity and serve as point person for the group’s digital initiatives. She joined IAG in 2012 from Investius, a financial services video and news service in Chicago, where she was Managing Director.

Ralph R. Ortega has joined SourceMedia as Editor-in-Chief of On Wall Street. Ortega was most recently a Senior Editor at Hedge Fund Alert, a digital news operation where he focused on enterprise reporting as well as database and research projects. Previously, he held writing and editing positions at the New York Daily News, Newark Star-Ledger and The New York Times.

Elson, Allen and Ortega, along with Bank Investment Consultant Editor Lee Conrad, will report to Wenger.

“This is an editorial dream team,” said John McCormick, Group Editorial Director of the SourceMedia’s Professional Services brands, which includes IAG. “The editors are dedicated to providing financial planners and investment managers with news, analysis, trends and research – across digital, print and event platforms – that the IAG audience needs to be truly successful.”
